How do 4G connected Cameras work?


4G connected dashcams, also referred to as LTE dashcams or cellular dashcams, are a type of dashcam that utilise cellular networks (typically 4G LTE) to offer remote connectivity and real-time access to video footage. Here's how 4G connected dashcams work:

  5. Remote Access and Management: Vehicle owners can access the dashcam's video footage remotely using a dedicated mobile app or a web portal provided by the dashcam manufacturer. The app allows users to:

    • View Live Video: Users can access a live stream from the dashcam's camera(s) in real-time, which can be useful for monitoring the vehicle or checking its surroundings.

    • Playback Recorded Footage: Users can review previously recorded video clips and download or share them as needed.

    • Event Notifications: Some 4G dashcams can send notifications to the user's smartphone when certain events are detected, such as accidents or unexpected movements of the vehicle.

    • GPS Tracking: Many 4G dashcams also include GPS functionality, which provides real-time tracking of the vehicle's location and speed. This information can be useful for monitoring vehicle activity and tracking routes.

  6. Cloud Storage: Some 4G connected dashcams offer cloud storage services where video footage is securely stored in the cloud. This allows for easy access to recordings from any location with an internet connection. Cloud storage may require a subscription fee.

  7. Data Plans: To use the 4G connectivity, users must have a data plan for the dashcam's SIM card. Data plans may be provided by the dashcam manufacturer or require a separate subscription with a cellular service provider.

4G connected dashcams are popular for commercial and fleet vehicles, as they provide real-time monitoring and tracking capabilities, making it easier to manage and maintain a fleet of vehicles.
